FIRST DEDICATION
This blog is dedicated to my son, Walter Luke Bubenzer, who strongly believed that a Voice was needed to share the plight of many in the legal profession in battling clinical depression and anxiety.
He obtained a Bachelors in Engineering from the University of Kentucky and his J.D. from Salmon P Chase College of Law.
Luke passed the Florida Bar Exam in July 2013 and the Kentucky Bar Exam in February 2015. In between he obtained a MBA from Sullivan University. He worked an attorney in my office in Frankfort, KY.
He also was a soldier having served 10 years in the Kentucky National Guard. He completed one tour of duty during Operation Iraqi Freedom and reached the rank of Sergeant.
His passion was martial arts. He earned a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and was an instructor and coach at several facilities.
Tragically, my son passed away in his sleep on June 2 2016, at the age of 33. Luke had been self medicating with benzodiazepines for anxiety and depression. He had also lost over 60 pounds in the months prior to his death. Although the level of drugs was within the therapeutic range, the combination of these factors likely caused his breathing and his heart to stop while he was asleep.
This blog will honor Luke by keeping his Voice alive.

SECOND DEDICATION
I also dedicate this blog to my brother and mentor William I. Bubenzer, a prominent and well respected attorney who practiced law in Covington, KY for 45 years before choosing to end his life on September 6, 2005, at the age of 69. He was a graduate of both the University of Kentucky School of Engineering and School of Law. He is survived by his wife, Lois, and their five beautiful daughters, Julie, Jill, Joy, Jennifer and Jessica, and many wonderful grandchildren.
